The giant of the motoring industry, General Motors, who own brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick, have reveasleda line-up of new car £. Only last month, General Motors recovered from 40 days of bankruptcy, in that time the US government invested $50 billion into the company, making it now 60% public owned.
Now that they have got out of danger from bankruptcy, the car manufacturer is looking for new ways to help increase business. Just a few days ago, they announced they are exploring new methods for selling their cars. One method that started on August 11th was listing the new cars on the online auction site, eBay.
On August 11th, General Motors invited over 100 hand picked consumers to an event they were holding in Detroit. The reason for the event was to show off the new series of cars that General Motors are releasing for various brands. After bouncing back after being struck by bankruptcy, the company have looked at their car models and are looking to make some new changes.
At the moment, most of their cars are large tank like vehicles that do very little miles per gallon, at one point these were very popular with Americans, however, motorists are choosing smaller and more greener cars these days. In an attempt to get younger and greener customers, General Motors have put together a series of smaller and fuel efficient cars that will be released for a number of their car brands.
One of the cars that was announced is the Chevrolet Volt which is expected to become very popular. This car is said to be set for release in 2010, it’s already become very popular because of how many miles per gallon it can manage. Currently, it’s been reported that the new Volt can do around 230 miles per gallon of city driving.
The other announcement that was welcomed was the new model Cadillac. The new model Cadillac is a small sports sedan and you can choose either rear or four wheel drive. The new Cadillac was not given an expected release date, but it is expected to be smaller than their popular Cadillac CTS.
General Motors announced a huge number of plans for their brands over the next 3 years. Some plans announced included making 3 new models for Buick, doubling their current model range. We’ll have to keep watching to see what new models are released first. Hopefully we’ll get some of these new models coming to the UK contract hire market. Currently if you want to lease a big American car you have to get a Chrysler lease. Another possibility would be to go for cheap van leasing because they’re most likely the same size as a Chevrolet
