Importance of maintaining your car

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

One thing a lot of people are unaware of is how important your car’s maintenance is.We overlook how important these cars are that we use to drive us wherever we want.We seem not to understand that our safety is always at risk whenever we go driving. Plus they seem unaware to the fact your car is also in danger whenever there is driving done.  So here are the top 2 auto repair jobs for your car.

First off it is important for the overall health of your car to always do tuneups.  What I mean is to have a regular tune up schedule for your car.  As mentioned your car’s are big investments. If you don’t take care of it you are opening it up to the risk of severe damage.  I have seen many clients ruin their vehicle and take it into my auto repair San Diego shop after the fact.  I see that if they had just performed some routine maintenance, the problem may never have happened.

Another point to take in is the fact when you do regular tuneups you will also make your car run cleaner.  With so much emphasis falling on clean air and emmissions it is important.  Because if you don’t take care of your car it can run the risk of faiing a smog check.  I have seen older cars that when taken care of pass with flying colors in my smog test San Diego shop by doing regular tune ups.  I have seen the other way around as well.  Cars that weren’t taken care of fail miserably.

Finally probably the most important part of your car is your brakes.  But people neglect it all the time.  By neglecting your brakes and not maintaining it you risk bigger repair costs.  In my San Diego brake service I see cars have expensive brake repair jobs because they didn’t do simple maintenance. By just keeping an eye on their brakes.Or if they did have some checks performed on it regularly it could have saved them some money.

Used cars and maintenance records

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

One of the current trends going on with buying a used car is their maintenance records. Most people are now wanting to see if a car they want to buy has a record of maintenance. Because you can be pretty sure that somebody who took care of their car, will have a car that will last longer. So if you own a car it is very important to keep all the records of service.  Because a buyer will want to see that.

So some things you can do is every time you go in to get service for your car keep a receipt of it.  In my auto repair San Diego business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.Be certain that the companies you are taking it into will do the same thing. This may very well be the difference in selling it for the price you were after or selling it for less.

Another thing, when you take your car in and get a tune up, make sure you keep that record.  Getting regular tune ups help keep your car running longer and smoother.  It also helps to get your car to pass a smog test much easier.  In my smog test San Diego center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finallly even for getting your brakes serviced you want to make sure to keep good records of that service. This is a big part of caring for your vehicle and its maintenance. It one thing that a prospective buyer will want to look at.  Because the last thing a new buyer wants is a big expensive brake service they need.  So in my San Diego brakes service I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar.  Buyers want good cars that were maintained.By taking care to keep all maintenance records you will be able to prove that you did maintain it.

How to use your car to save money

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Today a lot of Americans are searching for ways to spend less of their money. With the state our economy is in, you can’t really find fault in them.  They look at cutting expenses.Possibly they might start to not go out as much. They are not purchasing things they have no use with. But what I would like to look at is a way that you probably haven’t thought too much about.  That way is in your car.

When a lot of people consider using their cars to save money they think of ways to use less gas. They try to figure out ways to use less gas and spend less on gas.But what I would like to point out that if your car is properly cared for you will save more in the long run.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With most cars people usually don’t think of maintenance. Unfortunately, when they do find themselves thinking about it, it is because it is too late. They wait for their car to have something go wrong or something to break down. But from what I have witnessed doing this and waiting ends up making the auto repair expenses more costly.

As an example let look at your brakes. If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs.  If you don’t you can  have expensive discs you have to repair.Or you may have to get the brake shoes replaced.By using your brakes properly and then maintaining them you will save yourself some money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brakes shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.  Thinks like making sure it has enough brake fluid.

Or a lot of people won’t take their cars for tuneups.  They let the engine go.They do not do an oil change as frequently as they should. This leads to your cars engine running bad.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a San Diego smog check shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you do the proper maintenance you will keep your car running well.  The engine will run smoother and properly.  Wait to long and you will spend more money then you wanted.

Hopefully this gave you some good ideas that maintaining your car can actually save money. Spend your money now and you will end up spending less in the future.

Ways to have a car last longer

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

It is a new day and time. The economy is different.  With it, most Americans don’t have as much money to spend as before. In regards to the auto industry you are able to witness it.With the big three carmakers always losing money, you have proof that big items just aren’t being bought as much as before.

With that as a thought, a lot of Americans will be forced into having to keep their car a much longer times.  Keeping a car longer will require maintenance. The better you maintain your car is the longer life you will give it.  So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.

One of those things that can be so easily passed over is making sure your car runs clean. Why is this important?Because if you aren’t able to keep it running clean you are in danger of failing the smog check. If you are not able to pass a smog check this could lead to very expensive repairs.  I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.

All you really need to do is to be sure that you change the oil on a regular schedule.Als be positive that it is tuned up for all the regular tune ups.

Second thing overlooked is brakes.  You don’t pay much attention to them. But all can agree that it is very important for the safety of all.But if you are not diligent in caring for them, this will be an expensive repair.  I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.

Just make sure when you brake don’t be so rough on them. Be ready for all the stops and then you will be able to brake slowly. Also be sure there is enough bake fluids.  This can save you a lot of money in repairs.

Do these couple of things and you will save a lot of money in repairs.  When you have to keep your cars longer you will be glad you did.

Ways a used car can cost you more money

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Well the time of irrational exuberance is now long gone. For quite a few Americans those types of luxuries like new cars are now gone. Nowadays when a family needs a new vehicle they often look for used cars.  This is evident in all of the financial problems the big 3 carmakers are having.  There sales are down.

But most families will still need some sort of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice.  That alternative is used cars.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you have decided to buy that used car, you do not want to purchase a lemon. So by taking the time to perform a good inspection, you may avoid costly repairs.

So when you are looking over these cars remember these couple of items to inspect.First you will want to inspect the brakes.  We do San Diego brake in our shop.So I know from experience that having to repair brakes can be very costly. If you buy a used car where the brakes were not taken care of by the previous owner it can become expensive. The last thing you want to have to pay for is an entire braking system.  So make sure the brakes are good.

Second you want to make sure it is running clean.Another way to say it, can it pass the smog test.  In my business I do San Diego smog check.  The last thing you want is to purchase a car that will need expensive repairs.  Especially if those repairs involve emission problems.

If you purchase a car that can’t pass a smog test that isn’t good.  It is a sign that the car wasn’t taken care of.  Most likely they didn’t do oil changes or tuneups. These could be the start of a lot more problems in the future.

If you make sure to inspect these few items you can save yourself some money. By not doing proper checking you can fall into some huge repair bills.  When you are trying to save money I am sure you don’t want that.

Important Brake Maintenance Tips

Monday, June 29th, 2009

One of the things taken for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become second nature and routine and to some extemes a mindless activity for some people. You see people everywhere taking on the phone, reading, even doing makeup, etc. while driving.

But if you really thought about it, your life is on the line everytime you drive a car.Whoever is at fault isn’t the focal point of this article, but accidents do happen.

One of the causes of accidents, although rare, is brake failure.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle.Unfortunately, if it’s out of sight it is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight. But it is the one part of your automobile that you have to regularly maintain.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.  After all, your life and maybe even your family’s safety depends upon it.

With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes. You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.

Either way, the two main things you need to look at are the brake fluid level and the brake pad condition.  If you are diligent in maintaining these two points, you will keep your brakes safe.

When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It has a mark that says ‘min’ line and ‘max’ line.Make sure the fluids are not below the ‘min’ line and you should be okay.

Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear.  If it is not, you will have to flush the brakes and replace it with new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy to maintain. The difficult part is maintaining your brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Most of the times your brake pads will let you know that they need to be replaced by making that loud screeching sound during braking.

If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Worn brake pads make it difficult to control to a stop.

With your safety and any passengers safety on the line, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

Following these maintenance steps will ensure your car is safe for all driving conditions.

When to Replace Brakes

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

There are a lot of parts to your car you need to keep an eye on.  In this day and age of cars having everything automated, a lot of times maintenance of your car gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all, with cars that used to be cheap cars, like Hyundai’s being state of the art driving machines, it is easy to think nothing can go wrong with them.

That is a huge mistake.  There are still going to be parts of your car that need to be paid attention to and maintained.  Most people do pay attention to things like oil changes.  Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes.  Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.

So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.

The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes.  Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor.  This is not a good sign and you want to have your brakes replaced as soon as possible.

Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise.  A condition called glazed is what causes this.  This happens if a person uses the brakes excessively which causes the rotors to get too hot.  The rotors then are burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third problem is vibrations.  If your drums and rotors are warped, there will be a vibration when you brake. This happens when their is too much heat and this causesthem to lose their shape.  When this happens, your rotor needs to be replaced.

A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling. What occurs when you are braking is your vehicle want to pull in one direction.  This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly.  This happens due to a fluid leak.  To know which side is leaking, you need to have a professional look at it.  You can fix this by removing the air out of the brakes and replacing the caliper.

These are the regular issues that happen with brakes.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you realize it’s your brakes that stop you from accidents, you never want to neglect this part of your car’s maintenance.
